What is Responsive web design?

Responsive web design is a concept introduced by Ethan Marcotte about 5 years ago. It is a type of web design that provides a customized viewing experience for different browser platforms. A website created with RWD will display a different interface depending on what device is used to access the site. For example, a responsive website may appear one way on a laptop, another way on a tablet, and still another way on smartphone.

Transforming the web with your ideas!

Shen Valley Tech is a web design and development company, located at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, where I have been designing web pages and sites since 2003. All web design is done using best practices and with usability and accessibility in mind. This means that Shen Valley Tech strives to provide web sites and pages which can be viewed in multiple browsers across different platforms with a similar experience. Designs are done based upon the concepts of Responsive Web Design.

When a project begins, the first thing that happens is a “face-to-face” either in person or over the phone or skype to talk with the customer and discuss their needs and listen to their ideas. What follows is a joint process during which a web presence evolves through the incorporation of customer ideas and the judicious application of web design principles. The customer receives a web site designed with forward compatibility as a goal, meaning that new browser versions won’t break your site.

Web development is done using HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets(CSS3) and Javascript separating the code from the presentation, which reduces each web page to smaller and easily maintained sizes. Font, layout and color changes can be made quickly using a CSS style sheet. In addition, development may be done utilizing the PHP scripting language combined with MySQL database for web sites requiring a database.
